I've been daydreaming about starting a Dreamwidth for a while now, and decided to finally take the plunge today! I used to read the Hetalia kinkmeme way back in the day (circa 2013-4), but, aside from that, I have no real experience with the DW / LJ format... It seems almost like a mixture of Tumblr-style posts with Reddit-like communities? That idea really appeals to me, even if it isn't necessarily accurate...
I plan on using this account probably mostly for posting little fanfics and original stories for the time being. I've always thought the little prompt challenges were cute, so I think it'd be really fun to actually participate in one for once!
About myself... hm, I've been kinda fluttering between fandoms for a while, but I'd say I'm mostly interested in:
Oh! I also have a Neocities where I post book / movie reviews, literary analyses, and other sorts of essays about women's history / sexuality. Feel free to check it out and stop by to chat or recommend some books or anything like that! ^^
And... yeah, I think that should be about it! Nice to meet you, current Dreamwidth users, and hope we can get to know each other! :D

That's about right, yes. Individual blogs often have a mix of topics, but some are thematic if the author has many interests. Communities customarily have a topic, but it can be broad or narrow.
To find journals or communities, use the Interests page to search for topics you like; or see

That sounds cool. Lots of people on DW post fanfic.

>>And I like Greek Mythology and other folklore, so you might see some of that, also.<<
I love world mythology and folklore. Greek/Roman was an early favorite.
>>I also have a Neocities where I post book / movie reviews, literary analyses, and other sorts of essays about women's history / sexuality. Feel free to check it out and stop by to chat or recommend some books or anything like that! <<
Those are good topics here too. It's okay to copy the same post to different platforms.
Me, I write about all kinds of stuff. Much of what I post is my original writing. I also blog about nature, news, and whatever catches my fancy. Drop by on Tuesday, July 4 and you can see my Poetry Fishbowl with a theme of "Asking for Help and Getting It."

>> The Reddit Refugees community seems particularly useful! <<
Yay! It's growing slowly but folks seem to like it.
>> The whole idea of a Poetry Fishbowl also sounds really interesting, from what I saw on your page. Will you just open up a post on your page when you're doing it or is it hosted somewhere else? <<
I will make a Fishbowl Open post on Tuesday, July 4. Folks can leave prompts there. (If you expect to be busy that day, you can leave an advance prompt on the earlier post.) If there is a new prompter or donor, folks get an extra freebie! It's also fun to watch the crosstalk among the audience, sometimes they really get going. I hope to see you then!
Hii
Date: 2024-05-07 11:05 pm (UTC)I found I agreed with what you said in your essay, reading it reminded me of the time I joined tumblr in 2009/10 and experienced the brief couple years before the gender masterlist dropped in 2011 that had things like "plantgender" "fae/faer" and "godkin" on it lol... insane. Although I found evidence of this genderism stuff brewing as far back as 2007 on LiveJournal. (We stood NO chance of seeing THAT coming!) Back on tumblr I felt a lot of it was largely to do with fangirls not being able to defend themselves online on a website where the block button didn't work, so they hid behind a lot of "accusation-avoiding" tactics, like I'm sure you experienced the MPD trends of the early-mid 2010s on tumblr? Loool. "That wasn't me who shipped that... that was my other personality...." hahahaha. I've got so many stories around these years. This was definitely around the time where fandom behaviour influenced "identifying as lgbt when straight" because it was a cushion identity that put someone above criticism, since many young people on tumblr vaguely associated "lgbt" as oppressed, but didn't really clock what the gay rights movement existed for and what gay people were liberating themselves from—as a result young people believed that "identifying" as oppressed placed them in the same category and had leverage against people trying to control them, which actually perpetuated the oppression they were claiming to fight against because they were appropriating something for their own gain regardless of their intentions (a get out of fandom-jail free card), and then pronouns and asexuality in bio were for when someone didn't pass online and had to remind other people to check themselves. It was a dog eat dog world out there for teenagers in fandom! I remember being 17 in 2014 and asking all these other "gay" fangirls who were meant to be my friends what nyotalia ships they liked only to receive "I don't relate to girls..." and turned out they were actually just straight girls who identified as nonbinary. ಠ_ಠ And then later in the 2010s and early 2020s it became a trend to actually just sexually harass lesbian artists off of tumblr and twitter for what I can only assume was undermining heteropatriarchy cuz the straight males who hated lesbians would go crazy witch hunting them for "terf accusations" even as far as creating terf tracker and doxxing women! Naturally they hid behind she/her pronouns too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I believe that heavily contributed to femslashers being stunted to quite a large degree among other reasons. Fandoms are a gift economy so when that's disrupted everything goes to shit! That's actually why I wanted to make this blog, so I could just hang out in my own personal space. I believe fans in general need to go back to small forums and utilise personal blogs again, because twitter and tumblr have been destroying healthy fandom interactions and any potential activity from hobbyist artists for over a decade now. Bring back fandoms as something fun!! (≧ロ≦)
I also saw on your tumblr you had been hoarding TTRPG pdfs, I've also been doing that! What ones have you been into lately? Or just generally interested in exploring? For me I've been obsessed with Vampire The Masquerade lolol but I've been downloading any pdf that I can get my hands on, now I have, like, 100 pdfs related to TTRPGs in my folder! I bought DnD 5e a few years ago but never got round to playing it, then BG3 dropped and my friend was super into playing that, so it got me into giving TTRPGs a go again loool. I even bought a few solo TTRPGs that I'm learning how to play from drivethrurpg, they're pretty alright! I even started getting into fantasy map making and now I want to use my paint brushes and watercolours to make a map... I even bought special watercolour paper, and normie graph paper to make my own dungeons! Getting crafty is fun. Seeing your own creations is so cool too, your bookbinding especially. Please keep making!
Anyway I love your little corner of the internet, it really inspires me to get creative too. ✧◝(-ˊᗜˋ-)◜✧

Date: 2024-05-09 08:58 pm (UTC)Oh, I didn't realize this all started so early! Have you heard of the Tumblr model, by the way? It's basically the same idea, but I think your explanation is more nuanced, with people opting into "more oppressed identities" because it makes them more virtuous and therefore above criticism. The lack of historical literacy throughout Tumblr is appalling; the kids have no idea what they're talking about and still fight to the death over it. For real, it's so disappointing how forgotten female characters / lesbian ships are in fandom spaces! And the way Maxine Harlowe was run off of the internet, and now people are coming after cowboyjen68, as well, etc, etc... Lesbians really just can't have anything! Yeah, I think smaller, more cozy spaces like Dreamwidth or personal websites are a much better place for fandom / general arts & crafts-y stuff than major social media platforms.
Oh, nice! I've mostly been doing one-off solo rpgs, either based around dungeon crawling or journaling. My favorites so far have been The Estate of Baron Archambaud, an Ingrate, Cryptkeeper, Necrocarta. I'm just a really big fan of roguelikes, lol. I've also been meaning to try out more slice of life-y things, like Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop or Iron Valley, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Honestly, I've bought a couple of those mega charity bundles off of itch.io, so I'm kinda drowning in choices! Vampire the Masquerade sounds like a cool setting, from what I saw on the Wiki. Oh, painting your own maps and dungeons sounds like so much fun! A grid or bullet journal with ~100gsm+ paper would probably work well for that.
Oh, thanks! I definitely will and I hope you enjoy making stuff, as well! <3
